Narbonne was founded in 118 BC. BC, when the Romans decided to settle in this strategic location. Narbo Martius became the first Roman colony outside of Italy and quickly became a dynamic port in ancient times, adorned with beautiful public Roman monuments.

In the Middle Ages, the Archbishop's Palace, the cloister and the Gothic cathedral of Saint Just and Saint Pastor were built. They are the symbols of the religious power of the great prelates of Narbonne.
